September 2023 | What to do in Bologna

Summer has to end sooner or later, but autumn in Bologna leaves no room for sadness, much less boredom. A first look at the rich calendar of cultural events allows us to understand that there are still many possibilities in this month of transition between the summer season and the autumn season.

Let’s start with sport

September will be a month that will see a series of important events. Among these, the long-awaited event is the Davis Cup, from 12 to 17 September with the strongest national tennis of the last years of Sinner and Berrettini. For car and engine enthusiasts, the nearby Imola is the perfect destination for this month: ACI Racing Weekend and Imola Mostra Scambio.

Music events not to be missed

Music also plays a central role, just think that on September 23 on the stage of Casalecchio di Reno will rise Bjork: a highly anticipated live. Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September 2023 returns to Bologna, The Jazz Road in Piazza Maggiore with a rich program of events and live music around the city. For lovers of dance then, in the second week of the month, returns the twenty-sixth edition of Danza Urbana, international festival of dance in urban landscapes.

Festivals for all tastes

There are also many festivals in and around Bologna. With a rich program of events we suggest IT.A.CÀ, the festival on responsible tourism and Sun Donato Festival, free festival with events, workshops and outdoor music. If you are a lover of local food, you can not miss Mortadella Please, the festival where you can taste original and traditional recipes based on Mortadella.

Photography is the protagonist of PhMuseum Days 2023, a young festival at the second edition that looks to tomorrow with the theme “I Don’t Know How to Respond to That”.

Fantastic exhibitions

Among the unmissable exhibitions that will fill the autumn, let’s take a look at the exhibition of the Andreas Gursky MAST Foundation. The first anthological exhibition of the artist in Italy. It will also be possible to participate in the 29th edition of the Biennale del Muro Dipinto, in Dozza with exhibitions, installations and meetings.

We must also remember an appointment with Vivian Maier not to be missed: from 7 September 2023 to 28 January 2024, Palazzo Palazzini hosts the exhibition “Vivian Mayer Anthology” an extraordinary exhibition based on photographs from the archives of the Maloof Collection and the Howard Greendberg Gallery in New York.
